Lemongrass and Tea Tree are two of the most amazing essential oils! We used both of these in this bar, as well as a touch of Himalaya Cedarwood--all of which make for happy scalp--and happy hair!
The wonderfully gentle sodium cocoyl isethionate is the base for this shampoo bar. This is a product made from coconut! Then we used coco betaine, also from... you guessed it... coconut! The oils in this, which include neem, castor and jojoba, are utterly spectacular for both hair and scalp. Neem has been used for many years and is high in fatty acids--which help hair remain stronger and retain elasticity. It's used in many cultures to promote healthy, strong hair growth. The castor oil is something that is often used to help remove old sebum in the hair follicle, helping with healthier and happier hair! The jojoba gives itself over to perfect moisture in hair; lightweight and so, so good!
Tea tree helps with so many things... google it for yourself! And lemongrass...beyond the amazing, beautiful scent, it is just so great for cleansing the scalp, ridding it of dirt and pollutants. Shiny, happy hair is simply wonderful! Then, we used a small amount of cedarwood, as these three oils work so amazingly in perfect concert with one another... cedarwood helps cleanse scalp, rebalancing the natural oils in hair. The three together are lovely. The lemongrass is definitely the dominant scent, tea tree next, and then faintly, oh, so faintly, the cedarwood. It is lightly airy; it makes me feel lighthearted and happy.
The lemongrass is what causes the conditioner bar to be darker in color, because that's what natural things often do! NO color is added whatsoever, this is just the organically-natural effect of lemongrass! The shampoo will barely darken--so it's still that green/yellow color.
They are ecologically friendly, wrapped in glassine-paper (no wax, no plastic!) and with biodegradable labels, too! With these, there are no plastic bottles to go into a landfill. No plastic bottles to end up in the ocean. :) Just an eco-friendly bar of great shampoo or conditioner, in eco-friendly paper!
Shampoo:
For this shampoo bar, we used some spectacular additives--neem leaf powder, along with camu-camu--a fruit from South America that's loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants! Both of these additives are superbly renowned for their love of hair and scalp! Silk peptides, vitamin E oil and veggie keratin top this one, along with biotin, to strengthen and silken your tresses! The essential oils--the only scent in this -- are that of lemongrass, Australian tea tree and Himalaya cedarwood. We absolutely love this one. The lather, the scent, the shiny, full hair... delicious!
Conditioner:
My conditioner bars contain some lovely ingredients. A couple of these are called BTMS 25 and 50 -- the common name for Behentrimonium Methosulfate. This is a NON-sulfate, despite its name, derived from the rapeseed plant. Prized for its effective detangling abilities, it’s able to penetrate the hair shaft making it an excellent moisturizer and conditioner, while remaining gentle on the hair and skin, without coating the scalp or causing buildup. It’s also has hair thickening properties. Also, I used shea butter, castor and jojoba oils, each of which have wonderful, hair loving properties. I use veggie-derived keratin, silk peptides, and vitamin E. I also use Pro-Vitamin B-5 (DL Panthenol) which leaves hair healthier, shinier, and with a great silky feel. It combs out beautifully when wet from washing, and dries with a really pleasant, silky feel. We used the same essential oils in this as are in the shampoo bars: lemongrass, Australian tea tree and Himalaya cedarwood.
The shampoo bars weigh 3 oz, and the conditioner just over 2 oz. Keep the bars out of standing water, and allow to dry between uses for best, longest lasting results. The shampoo bar typically lasts a quite bit longer than a typical 16 oz bottle of shampoo, and the conditioner bar lasts longer even than that, typically.
To use the shampoo, wet hair, rub the bar over your hair, and lather it up. I follow up with a "rinse and repeat." Apply conditioner bar to very wet hair for best results. Water activates the bar. You can add as much or as little as you like. It goes on pretty well, but if you like a LOT of conditioner, just take your time in applying.
As we said above, our goal is to provide eco-friendly products, which won't add anything more to landfills or the ocean, so we package our bars in fully biodegradable paper.
